Saturday Maj 14th:

Scintific symposium in English:
For love of insects – odours, diversity and ecology

An international symposium dedicated to the work of late Jan Tengö, heading the Ecological research station of Uppsala University at Ölands Skogsby. For several decades, at this island in the Baltic Sea, important work was performed within the fields of chemical and behavioral ecology in insects. Today, under the name of Station Linné, the station remains a key meeting place for scholars of different disciplines and nationalities. As a link between this period and future research, we present and discuss highlights of present day international insect research in chemical ecology, evolution of behavior and traits, systematic, and conservation ecology.

Programme:
8.00 – 9.00  Registration and coffee
9.00 – 9.10  Welcome and introduction
9.10 – 9.40  The chemistry of deceit in orchid pollination,
Prof. Wittko Francke, Institut für Organische Chemie, Hamburg University

Welcome to a symposium including an excursion on the beautiful island of Öland!

The symposium is dedicated to the work of late Jan Tengö, heading the Ecological research station of Uppsala University at Ölands Skogsby.

There will be short talks about land use, pollination, chemical ecology, threatened species and landscape ecology. What does insects mean to us and how do we preserve biodiversity? After lunch there will be an excursion guided by insect experts.

The symposium and the excursion is free of charge. Lunch can be bought at Ölands Folkhögskola.
