Utländska forskare gästar oss

Samtidigt som de första lärkorna anlänt och solen tär på snön så har utländska forskare anlänt till Station Linné.

Meike och Mareike kommer från Tyskland och stannar fyra månader på stationen. Alexey Reshchikov kommer från Ryssland och är här en vecka. Nedan kan du läsa Meikes och Mareikes lilla berättelse på engelska och tyska om deras bakgrund och vistelse här.

Laboratoriet är fullbemannat – åtta mikroskopplatser är upptagna av stationens entomologer och gästentomologer. Våra utländska gäster bor på stationen. Utanför Alexeys rum står hans skidor. Innan vårsolen nu tärt på snötäcket på Alvaret hann han åka några härliga skidturer.

Hej!

Have you ever looked deeply into the eyes of a fly and thought, what a beautiful creature it is? Probably not! But it can happen if you work in the Swedisch Malaise Trap Project. Then you’ll suddenly see the insects from a different perspective and wonder how varies insects are.

We are Meike (Schuppenhauer) and Mareike (Kiupel) and we are two biology students from Bremen in Germany. We are now in our third year of our International Degree Course Industrial and Environmental Biology B. Sc. and included in our studies are two semesters abroad, in a non-German speaking country. Since August 2012, we are in Sweden now. From September 2012 until January 2013 we have been studying some biology courses at Linnaeus University in Kalmar. During an information evening we got to know the Station Linné. Since the beginning of February 2013 we are doing our internship for at least 18 weeks here at the Station.

After one week training with the project leader Kajsa Glemhorn at a double microscope we learned how to distinguish all insects orders from each other. After that week we work on our own with different kind of samples. By precise sorting of insects for the Swedish Malaise Trap Project, we get to know a lot of insects from Sweden in different shapes, sizes and morphology. You discover a whole new area of biology and want to learn more about them, even though you never thought about it before. During the time of our Internship we will get a lot of entomological knowledge and therefore we would like to thank the crew of Station Linné to give us the possibility to work in this unique project. We will definitely enjoy our time here!

Hast du jemals tief in die Augen einer Fliege geblickt und gedacht, man ist die schön! Nein, wahrscheinlich nicht! Aber genau das kann passieren, wenn man an einer Forschungstation arbeitet und sich mit Insekten beschäftigt! Wir sind zwei Studenten der Hochschule Bremen, Mareike (Kiupel) und Meike (Schuppenhauer), die zur Zeit ihr Internship an der Station Linné machen, als Teil des Internationalen Studiengangs Technische und Angewandte Biologie B. Sc.. Zuvor haben wir ein Semester an der Linnaeus University in Kalmar studiert und dadurch auch die Station kennen gelernt.

Seit Anfang Februar 2013 arbeiten wir 18 Wochen für das Swedisch Malaise Trap Project. Wir haben eine Woche intensives Training erhalten, in dem wir von der Projektleiterin Kajsa Glemhorn an einem Doppelmikroskop alle relevanten Insektenordnugen in einer Probe gezeigt bekamen. Seit dem Ende der Einführungswoche arbeiten wir nun an eigenen Mikroskopen und mit eigenen Proben. Das Interessante daran ist, dass wir durch die Arbeit einen sehr guten Eindruck von der Insektenfauna von Schweden bekommen und eine gute Ausbildung in der Bestimmung von Insektenordnungen, die uns ermöglicht innerhalb von wenigen Sekunden Insekten zu sortieren. Nach nur wenigen Wochen wächst das Interesse an Insekten sofort, auch wenn man sich vorher mit ihnen noch nicht beschäftigt hat. Der Reiz weitere Entomologische Kenntnisse sich anzueigenen, ist ebenfalls geweckt und wird innerhalb unseres Intenships sicherlich noch weiter ausgeführt. Wir freuen uns auf die kommende Arbeit und danken der Station Linné und ihren Mitarbeitern für die Möglichkeithier ein Teil des Swedish Malaise Trap Project zu sein!
