Birding Weekend on Öland

Experience the fantastic Bird life on southern Öland from October 11th to 13th, and April 25th to 27th 2025!

Join us for a weekend, where you will have the opportunity to experience the rich Bird life on Öland. We will stroll the meadows looking at waders, and we will enjoy the rich chorus of birds in the forests! We will visit wetlands in southern Öland and you will learn about the abundant birdlife of the island. We visit the unique Öland alvar plains and hope to encounter some Öland bird specialties as well.

During shorter walks we will practice and learn to recognize the songs or calls of different bird species. We will have the chance to meet migrating waterbirds along the coastline and passerines in the many different habitats. These tours provide a golden opportunity to practice learning bird calls, but also a chance to enjoy the fantastic landscapes and birdlife of the island. There are also good chances to see rarities. In other words, May and October are just wonderful times to experience the Bird life on Öland!

We will travel in our own cars, please tell us already when booking if you are dependent on a ride or if you have an own vehicle! The main language used on these tours will be Swedish, but we are happy to welcome English speaking guests as well!

Itenary

Friday, April 19th/October 11th
Accommodation available from 1:00 PM onwards.
4:00 PM Coffee break at the station.
4:30 PM Walk to Old Skogsby - bird songs in the grove surrounding one of the best-preserved Iron Age settlements in Sweden.
7:00 PM Catered dinner at Station Linné.
8:00 PM Short lecture on bird migration.

Saturday, April 20th/October 12th
6:00 AM Departure from Station Linné towards southern Öland, with breakfast packages to enjoy outdoors.
12:00 PM Lunch at Drottning Ödas restaurant in Össby, southern Öland.
5:00 PM Return to Station Linné.
6:30 PM Dinner at the venerable Bo Pensionat in Vickleby.

Sunday, April 21st/October 13th
7:00 AM Breakfast buffet.
8:30 AM Check-out and excursion to Beijershamn Nature Reserve.
1:00 PM Closing lunch at a famous local restaurant. Chanse to experience the local dish kroppkakor (potato dumplings)!

Cost: SEK 5,990 per person for shared accommodation in a double room. Single room supplement: SEK 390.
